The overweight and obese population has skyrocketed, resulting in a high incidence of metabolic disorders. Agardhiella subulata (AS) contains a variety of beneficial components, such as sulfur-containing polysaccharides (dietary fiber) and astaxanthin, which is considered to have anti-obesity potential. In this study, we investigated the effects and possible mechanisms of dietary AS on high

Austrocylindropuntia subulata is a species of cactus native to the Peruvian Andes. The name subulata comes from the Latin subulate, for awl-like, referring to the shape of the rudimentary leaves. It is also known by its common names as Eve's pin and Eve's needle

Identity Taxonomic Tree Distribution Table The Atlantic red alga Agardhiella subulata has been described to produce novel oxylipin metabolites. 72 One such metabolite, agardhilactone (50), which was difficult to isolate due to its inherent chemical instability, is unique in its highly functionalized skeleton which contains alcohol and diene functionalities as well as cyclopentyl, epoxide, and lactone rings. Stable isotopes are preferable in many ways to radioactive isotopes for metabolic studies designed to elucidate biosynthetic pathways. We have developed the methodology to utilize 13C-labelled compounds in tracer studies of saccharide metabolism in the red algae. Cultures of Agardhiella subulata were pulse-chase labelled with 13C02 and 12C02.

Agardhiella subulata, along with several other species, does not fit neatly into any one of these types. The revision of the five type system was in order, and was recently accomplished by recognizing variations within two new main classes - the polar gap type and the polar fenestrations type.
